A New Day

Taking a look at all of the things I've been missing

February Ipsy Review

on February 16, 2014

Nothing helps brighten a dreary Ohio winter like a pretty pink package!

The theme of this month is The Look of Love and all of the products are packed in a cute (but not memorable) light pink makeup bag. This will probably get filled with art supplies for one of my nieces. And I still somehow received 2 packages again… I swear I cancelled!!

I was really happy with the products this month – the spoilers set the expectations pretty high and I was definitely not disappointed.

I went a little PicStitch crazy today and tried to have some fun editing.

Here we go:

POP Beauty Plump Pout Mini in Peony Petal  T”his plumping pout perfector combines the high-shine of a lacquered gloss with the long wear of a stain and is packed full of lip-plumping peptides and avocado and jojoba oils. Lightweight, creamy texture immediately merges with lips & delivers intense glossy color for an extremely long-lasting finish!”  Aside from the December POP eyeshadow trio, this is the only other product I’ve tried. The gloss has a slight plastic-y scent that fades shortly after application and has little to no flavor. The texture is nice and light and it stayed on for a couple hours. I didn’t notice any plumping qualities, but it did stain a bit, which I was not happy about.

Zoya Nail Polish“This season’s Zoya Nail polish are full of pure pigment, intense color and modern complexity that are a perfect transition into Spring.” Each subscriber received a .5 fl oz sample this month. I tried my first Zoya polish a few months ago and really liked it. This is a great lavender (maybe Radiant Orchid??) shade to have as we transition to spring!

Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in Starlight“This creamy formula glides effortlessly onto the lid and locks into lower rim to beautifully define your eyes. Create a fine line or a thicker line with no pulling or tugging. Wear it as a shadow by applying to the lid and smudge. Rich and full, this liner will give a strong coverage that lasts all day.” Mally is another brand I’ve wanted to try and have been hearing a lot of great things about! I used this in the look above on the lower lash and waterline. This silver pencil just glided on – it was so soft. Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of staying power and didn’t last the full 8 hours.

Überliss RituOil“Quench your hair’s thirst with the Überliss RituOil! Engineered with a light blend of Orchid & Argan Oil, RituOil will preserve precious moisture within the hair fiber by sealing the cuticle & will safeguard it from thermal damage. The end result will be amazingly soft, shiny, & frizz-free hair.” Haven’t had a chance to try this yet!

Jesse’s Girl 9 Pan Eye Shadow Compact in Behind Blue Eyes“Jesse’s Girl put together four great eye shadow collections suitable for all: Brown Eyed Girl, Behind Blue Eyes, Tickled Pink, and The Eyes Have It. Each compact features nine coordinating eye shadows in a sleek, travel-friendly case.” A BLUE pallet? Really? I’m really picky about my blues… and this was a very pleasant experience. The eye above was created using a few of the shades (more 0n that in a sec…) without a primer and lasted 8 solid hours with no creasing. The arm swatches are 1-5 and then 6-9 in order of the pan.

To create the look above:

Going left to right in the pan, number 1-9, this look was created with 1, 2, 3, 4, 9. I started with a Makeup Forever black liner on the top and the Mally Starlight liner on the lower lash and waterline. #1 was then applied on the brow line down to the crease. #3 was applied all 0ver the lid and blended with #4 on the outer edges and blended out. Using a slanted brush, #9 was applied to the upper lash line. Finally the inner corners were highlighted with #2. The lashes were topped off with 2 coats of Benefit Bad Gal mascara in black.

Overall this was a great bag and looking forward to next m0nth!
