A New Day

Taking a look at all of the things I've been missing

Use It – January

on February 1, 2014

Happy first day of February! Holy moly, where did January go?? Since we’re officially in a new month, you know what that means – time for some reviews of products I finished over the last few weeks. Focusing on using up products actually helps me not become obsessed with shiny, new things. I think that makes sense…

Here we go:

Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper Sugar Scrub – at first, this combination sounds like it shouldn’t work. But don’t worry, it smells absolutely amazing. In addition to its bright citrusy scent, this product magically works itself into a foamy, scrubbing cleanser. It leaves your skin feeling soft, but doesn’t leave oils or film behind. I have several products in this scent, including a spare scrub. If I didn’t already have it in my stockpile, I would definitely repurchase.

TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray – this product is for use on damp or dry hair to protect from hair dryers, curling irons and straighteners. I would have to give this a big thumbs down. I used this on both damp and dry hair and all it ever seemed to do was make my hair stiff and crunchy. If that was the intent, then yes, it did protect from heat, I suppose since it was impossible to use a straightener afterwards. I have a feeling this was not the intent. After taking up space on my counter for way too long, I’ve decided to say farewell. This is one of the few products I have actually just given up on.

Kerastase Masque Chroma Riche – this was a really nice hair product from Birchbox from early in 2013 that just recently cycled through. A lot of BB subscribers complain (and complain…) about the foil packets, but they don’t really bother me. I just trimmed the end and was able t0 get about 8 uses from this particular package. It smells wonderful and has a nice thick texture, but it is nowhere near as moisturizing as the Amika Obliphica Nourishing Mask. I did get 2 of the Chroma Riche packets so I will probably use the other one at a later date, but I would not purchase.

philosophy Hope in a Jar – as I’ve said probably 20 times already, I’m a big fan of philosophy. After using the Hope in a Jar/Tube eye cream for years, I decided to give the moisturizer a try. I think this is definitely a great summer night time moisturizer, but for winter I really need something much more moisturizing. When I combined it with the Maula facial oil from the January Ipsy bag, it did perform much better. I would probably purchase this again – this 2 oz jar lasted a very long time, so it is certainly worth the cost (approx. $40).

While I was able to unload a few items, I barely made a dent in my product stockpile. Here’s to February being a very productive use it month!
