A New Day

Taking a look at all of the things I've been missing

Mountain preparations

on November 20, 2013

I may have mentioned before that I have a love-hate relationship with working out. Today was a hard cardio day that included indoor running, moderate weight training, followed by 30 minutes the elliptical. It occurred to me that physically, I am really close to where I would like to be for skiing out west. However, I know I am going to struggle with breathing in the higher altitudes. I use a rescue inhaler sparingly and do most of my cardio without it. Being asthmatic can present a lot of challenges in the mountains though. Anyone have any recommendations for improving my respiratory system in the next week and a half???

I’m very much a last minute packer, but due to the amount of gear and layers I have to take to Colorado, I’ve already begun the pre-packing process. One of the most important things I’m focusing on is the right sunscreen. The sun’s reflection off of the snow is sometimes downright dangerous. While I would rather spend my energy figuring out what I’ll need for a powder day, the likelihood of me needing sunscreen is significantly higher than p0wder guards.

Earlier this week, I went to the happiest place in NE Ohio  – the historic West Side Market. The goal was to get pomegranates and fresh pasta, meet a friend for lunch then come home. Well of course, I managed to fill my bag with grapes, spices, cannoli -oops. I clearly cannot be trusted in the market. Here is an aerial view:
